Meet Brittany

Welcome! I'm Brittany Hemric, founder of Free Reins Equine.

Horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, I spent countless hours riding, caring for, and simply being with them. Even as a child, I sensed there was something extraordinary about the connection between horses and people.

I earned a degree in Special Education from Auburn University and a master’s degree in Education from Gardner-Webb University. My passion for helping others led me to open a therapeutic riding center in South Carolina in 2011, where I witnessed firsthand the profound impact horses can have on healing, growth, and self-discovery.

Although I later built a successful career in the insurance industry, the dream of combining my love for horses with my desire to help others never left my heart.

In 2020, life took an unexpected turn when I became the caregiver for my young niece and nephew after they entered the foster system. I moved across the country to California during the uncertainty of COVID, balancing the demands of raising two children, supporting my family, and running a business. The experience stretched me in ways I never imagined and left me feeling disconnected from myself and the life I envisioned.

Everything changed when I attended an equine-assisted women's retreat. Through the horses, I found clarity, healing, and the courage to trust myself again. They helped me reconnect with my intuition, establish healthy boundaries, and rediscover my own path forward.

That experience inspired a new chapter. I relocated with my family to a ranch in Colorado, returned to the horses that had always grounded me, and stepped fully into the work I was called to do.
